Hello from Kenya!

Today is World Food Day, which feels fitting, as Michael and I are visiting farmers.

This morning, we spent time with Joshua, who proudly showed us how much his farm has grown. He used to earn 500 KS a day. Now, thanks to your support with irrigation, he takes home 2,000 KS.

Joshua's wife, Millicent, said they can pay school fees now. They no longer worry about food. They also purchased new chickens and two calves. These practical things have made a big difference.

I had to ask. Is there one fun thing you can do now that you couldn't pay for before?

"One Sunday, we took the boys to Kisumu for the day," Millicent shared with a smile.

The city of Kisumu is only a few miles from their farm, but before, they could never afford a trip like this. Their two boys had never been. "We wandered around the shops, looking in the windows. And for the first time, we went to a swimming pool."

As we spoke, her youngest son, Victor, came home from school on his lunch break. He was a shy middle schooler sporting his school uniform.

I couldn’t get him to say much at first. But when I asked, "What's your goal after you become a high school math teacher?" his expression changed. His eyes glimmered. I knew he had an answer. Of all the wishes a middle-school boy has in the world, this one said: "As soon as I get a job, I’m going to buy my parents a bigger house. In Kisumu."

So much of parenthood involves providing practical things. Dinner. Laundry. So many band-aids! But if we're fortunate, we also get the privilege of casting a broader vision for our children. Exposing them to opportunities that open their eyes. We get to plant a seed of what’s possible—and nurture it.

Joshua’s family is one example of the impact you are making. Thanks to your generosity, 878 farmers are now feeding over 130,000 neighbors.

Thank you so much for helping dreams take root and grow.
